Technical:

Songlines Estates Bylines McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015

Made from some of the finest Shiraz vineyards in McLaren Vale with some of the vines aged up to nearly 80 years old, which result in low yields of 2.5 to 3.0 tonne to the acre. The oldest blocks are pruned and hand picked due to the vines age to avoid damage, which allows the winemaker to carefully select the individual batches at optimum ripeness. A variety of winemaking techniques are used to match each batch of wine perfectly. This means different batches received a combination of open vat fermentation or submerged cap fermenters. Temperatures are generally warmer although some cool fermented vats were included in the final bland. Batches are selected that will show a more generous flavour earlier in its life, with softer tannins, rounder structure and an open display of fruit character. The wine is matured using mature barrique oak barrels prior to bottling with minimal fining or filtration.

The Colonial Estate InExile Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2013

The fruit for this blend was sourced from two vineyards one old vineyard in the Marananga and the other from the Greenock region just up the road in the Barossa Valley. Both vineyards were severely pruned and as a result of this and minimal water they produced just one and a half one to the acre. The grapes were all hand picked and a small selection from the western edge of the Shiraz block and a small selection from the dead centre of the Cabernet block were isolated by the winemaker and vigneron as they had such outstanding quality. The grapes were transported to the winery in the early hours of the morning to avoid the summer heat where they were again sorted then de-stemmed and crushed before being cofermented in large wooden vats after extreme cold maceration. The wine had their malolactic in new French oak, and is thereafter in the same oak although a small parcel went into two new French barrels for aging. The best barrels were then selected after 24 months in oak to be used in the final blend and bottled with minimal filtration. In the winery the final barrels used were isolated from all other wines and we considered them to be inexile and hence the name was born.

Ladbroke Grove Coonawarra Killian Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

This is a classic full flavoured Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit sourced from our “Killian Vineyard” centrally located in Coonawarra. The mature cabernet block is morrow-row planted, producing lower yields of intense ripe fruit. Established in 1982, Ladbroke Grove Wines remains a family owned business producing premium Coonawarra wines in limited quantities.

Thorn Clarke Milton Park Merlot 2011

With our family history in the Barossa region dating back to the 1850s and estate grown vineyards now totaling over 270 hectares, Thorn-Clarke produces a range of award winning Barossa Valley red and Eden Valley white wines. Whilst Barossa Valley Shiraz is world famous, it is the diversity of terroir (soil, climate, aspect) across the four sites in both the Eden Valley and Barossa Valley that provides the Thorn-Clarke winemaking team with our real strength – estate grown fruit from established vineyards. Milton Park is a beautiful family owned vineyard property one and half hours North East of Adelaide. The Sandpiper a remarkable migratory bird can be seen fossicking around Milton Park in the warmer months. To produce a wine that year after year shows character, consistency and true varietal attributes, we source fruit from some of Australia's finest vineyard regions including Barossa. Halliday has rated Thorn Clarke FIVE STARS for nine consecutive years, while Parker has said of Thorn Clarke reds, 'the greatest value in the marketplace'. This vintage had a cool, slow ripening period which has in turn produced elegant red wines.

Accolades & Awards:

The Colonial Estate InExile Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2013

Trophy Decanter World Wine Awards London

“Lively and energetic, yet showing opulence, with the ripe dark berry and cherry fruit fully integrated with the oak. Attractive cedar notes, spice and lots of wood give a savory edge to balance the bright fruit, and there’s good structure, with round, velvety tannins. Harmonious, long and seamless.”

5 Stars Equal Top of Category & Nominated for Winestate Wine of the Year

"One judge described this wine as having, ‘Pepper and spice and everything nice.’ Lots of spicy oak on the nose with a refined and elegant palate that is still quite tight. Good length and texture."
